-
Please supply all ad PDFs to the size of the ad booked (ie a full page ad will be supplied at 395mm x 255mm).
-
Do not supply ads with bleed/registration/crop marks, except for X-Press front cover strip ads.
-
All files/ads are to be supplied as single PDF pages.
Photoshop settings To achieve the best reproduction of your images, ensure you install and use the supplied photoshop colour settings. (Attachment mandurah newsprint.csf)
To install, quit Photoshop, then move the attachment into: MAC: Hard Drive > Library > Application Support > Adobe > Colour Settings PC: Local Disk > Program Files > Common Files > Adobe > Color > Settings
Then with Photoshop open, under ‘Photoshop’ menu, go to ‘Colour Settings’ and select the ‘mandurah newsprint’ from the ‘Settings’ pop-up menu. Click ‘OK’.
To load the settings onto the images, change colour mode from CMYK to RGB to CMYK. When finished using the supplied ink settings change Photoshop back to its default for your normal day to day operation.

-

-
To make them appear in Distiller settings pop-up menu, place them in the Job Options folder inside Distiller application folder.

-
If we are setting your ad
-
All text to be saved in a Word document (with no images/logos placed)
-
Logos/images must be provided as separate JPG, TIFF or EPS files @ 300dpi resolution at 100% of the required printed size.
-
Images taken/downloaded from the internet web pages are not acceptable as they are generally 72dpi and are only good for viewing on a monitor or screen. A 72dpi image when printed will look pitted, lack detail, sharpness, and tonal depth - a general lack in quality.
-
A rough draft of the desired layout or a list of any further instructions /requirements can be provided (a Word doc, fax or email is acceptable).
Proofing When all elements are received, according the specifications above, the ad will be laid out and a proof provided.
-
Please check the proof carefully as the onus is on advertisers to ensure everything is correct and sign off on the proof.
-
Please mark any corrections/alterations required clearly on the proof and return promptly.
-
After the alterations/corrections are made a final proof will be provided for sign off.
-
A maximum of 3 proofs will be issued unless our artwork is at fault.
-
Ads already created as JPG, EPS, TIFF or PDF files are not workable files and should not be submitted for setting/alterations.
Important notes
Please do not create a PDF using
-
‘Export to PDF’ from within PageMaker, QuarkXPress, or Adobe InDesign.
-
‘Save as PDF’ format from Illustrator, Freehand, or Photoshop
-
‘PDF Writer” from non high-end graphic applications like Word, Excel, Publisher, Corel, Visio. For example using the ‘Convert to Adobe PDF’ in Word.
-
These methods may work occasionally, but each can cause varying problems from font substitution, poor quality colour, use of RGB images, colour, graphics may not render correctly and images may be too low in pixel quality.
- ALL spot colours must be converted to CMYK equivalents before making a PDF of your ad. Failure to do this wil cause unexpected results with colour and image knockout.
While every effort is taken to resolve any issues, the publisher takes no responsibility for poor quality outcomes or printing errors when PDF files have been created using these methods, or if the PDF does not meet the required material specifications.
Microsoft Publisher/Word - We do not accept advertising material supplied as a Publisher document. Create a PDF file using the Print and Distill method. Remember that the Resolution in the Print dialogue box is dependent of the printer selected - locate a printer with a setting of 1200dpi or install the AdobePS Driver which installs a ‘dummy’ PostScript printer on your hard drive. The installer can be downloaded from:www.adobe.com/support/downloads. Other helpful information can be obtained by searching for ‘print postscript’ from within the online Publisher help file. The following should also be considered: When you print, ensure that Composite CMYK is selected from the Advanced button in the Print window.Select Print to File to print a PostScript file to your hard drive. Distill the file using the ‘RuralPressAdvertising.joboptions’ in Acrobat Distiller. Microsoft Word was never produced to provide high resolution commercial print quality files and only outputs files ins RGB. A PDF file created from Word will also only contain RGB colors so will not comply to current material specifications. If you are using Microsoft Word, you will need to ‘Print to File’ and select an appropriate high resolution printer. On the File menu, click Print. In the Name box, click the printer you’ll use to print the file. Select Print to file and then click OK. Select a location to save the file and type in a file name. When you print to a file, Microsoft Word preserves information such as line breaks, page breaks and font spacing. The publisher takes no responsibility for any quality issues for advertising files that have been created using Microsoft Word. Please seek the assistance of a graphic artist or pre-press professional to make up your advertising to meet newspaper specifications.
