DIAMOND EYE

The Sound Of Silencers

Heavy rockers Diamond Eye have been slaying Perth audiences for five years, and now they’re taking their music all over Australia. Ahead of launching new EP Sound Of The Guns this Friday, October 14, at Amplifier Bar (with support from Ragdoll and Amberdown), lead guitarist Greg Fawcett chats to MATTHEW HOGAN.

You’re up for WAM Song Of The Year in the metal category for the title track from the EP Sound Of The Guns – what do you think it is that makes this song a stand-out for the band? How do you think you’ll go against the other songs up for the award? Sound Of The Guns is the epic track on the album. It stands out from the others as it has clean guitars in the intro, really builds into the body and then hits you with a big hook and tempo change. And it has a powerful and catchy chorus too. The other nominees for WAM Song Of The Year are all great bands who write cool songs. It would be awesome to win our category and we have as much a chance as the other bands, but we’ll see what the judges think.
Tell us all about your EP – where was it recorded, who helped out and how did you manage to compress your acclaimed live show into a small plastic CD? We recorded the album with Matt Gio and Adam Round at Underground Studios in Booragoon and it was mastered by Leon Zervos at Studios 301 in Sydney. We’re really happy with the way it has turned out. We spent a lot of time getting things the way we wanted and several mixes later we got the result we felt best captured all the energy and power of our songs that allows us to do the live show we do.
How did you Sydney tour go last month? Where did you go and how did the audiences react to your live show? Sydney was awesome! We had a great time, met a lot of new friends and fans and bonded closer as a unit. We played three shows at Baulkham Hills, Richmond and the city. The audience response was really positive and we slayed them!
Diamond Eye are known for pulling out all stops when it comes to playing live, so what can fans expect from your launch this Friday night? We can’t wait for Friday, we’ve written some killer new tracks and planned a really cool lights show too. The 80 minute set is well rehearsed and ready to blow the roof off the joint. We’ve gone with Ragdoll and Amberdown as supports as we really wanted a quality bill for this show and both of these bands are awesome in their own right.
You’ve got some big shows lined up for summer, which ones are you looking forward to most? We’re looking forward to the Fire In The Hole Festival. It’s a great line-up of bands covering several genres and to be held at Red Hill Auditorium. We have second billing so we’re going all out for that one too. It was scheduled for December but is now being moved to later this summer. We’ve also got another show at the Charles Hotel on the 26th November which will be a big night. Aside from that, we’ve got something special in the works for January but still sorting that out at the moment. We’ll post details soon.
