THE JOE KINGS
Love Strikes
Independent
There’s no doubt you’ve heard their name, seen one of their shows, or seen them on-stage at least part of the way naked. The Joe Kings have released their much-anticipated second EP, and damn was it worth the wait.
The Love Strikes EP is chock-full of frantic Hendrix-esque riffs from guitarist Phill Leggett and soulful bluesy vocals from frontman Jack Stirling. Each of the four tunes on the record are well-rounded stand-alones, and could just as easily have come from a full length album as an EP. The band pays homage to their ‘60s influences with each song, putting a unique Kinks spin on them. Third track I Left My Home Too Young is a particular stunner, with a combo of effortless, lilting guitar, striking vocals, and a lyrical story that turns out a solid, mature tune. Second track Got A Letter for You is one for the live shows, and is so awesomely funky that you’ll be jivin’ to the sexy riffs in no time. It’s been a big couple of years for The Joe Kings, going from a duo to a quartet, winning a WAMi, selling out shows throughout our fine state, and touring the country. And though we love the band in WA, it’s been a bit of a slow build-up for these super talented musicians nationwide, and hopefully this EP will get The Joe Kings the recognition that they undoubtedly deserve.
